CONVENTION TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
Via Convention Travel Document (CTD) (aka Refugee Passport).
The Nigerian Immigration Service issued the first Convention Travel Document (CTD) (also known as the Refugee Passport) to the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) on 15 May 2019. Submitted. Refugees “protected” by Nigeria.
States party to the 1951 Geneva Convention are obliged to issue travel documents to refugees lawfully residing in their territory, and as a party to the Convention, Nigeria is authorized to travel under the 1951 Geneva Convention. Added to the list of countries issuing documents.
CONVENTION TRAVEL DOCUMENT (CTD) HIGHLIGHTS
1. It is issued free of charge to refugees, as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) pays for its production.
2. It’s a biometric travel document.
3. Compliant with ICAO.
4. Also known as the 1951 Convention Travel Document, Geneva Passport, or Refugee Passport.
5. A valid travel document for international travel. Travel document holders are allowed to return to Nigeria if they leave the country within the validity period of the document.
6. This is an internationally recognized travel document issued to refugees under her 1951 United Nations Convention on the Status of Refugees.
